Seeds are Here!!!!

I received my seed order today in the mail

Which to use???????  I only have room for 1 plant.

I get asked "How do you grow a giant pumpkin?? all the time.
I tell them I start with a seed from a giant pumpkin.
Above, the 3 are from this seed pack. The bottom one is from my 375lb one a few years ago.

I decided to start  2 from 2 different packs.
Just in case, rabbits, ect....

I put the seeds in peat pots on a heating pad I got at a weigh-off a few years ago.
7-10 days now!

Pumpkin Patch 2013

I added two pickup loads of compost to my patch.
I tilled in the compost so the ground is good and loose.

I then added about 20 pounds of epson salt and a bag of vermiculite

I dug a mound hole and mixed in a wheel barrel of compost and more vermiculite.

Sept Pumpkin Update

I have not been very good at updating the blog this year.  There have been several false starts for a big one. I have had several get to about the size of a basketball, only to find it mush the next day!  But I think I have one that may make it.  The vine is still in good shape for September. I still have about two months for it to grow and put on weight.

Corn Harvest

I picked corn this morning before work. Not a bad haul!

You can tell the pumpkin vine is doing well also. Now I just need a pumpkin to take off!

Flower

I got this bulb from my mom a few years ago. Last year it never bloomed. Mom's was in bloom back in April. I guess it is better to bloom late, than not at all!

Garden update

A few pictures to show how the garden is progressing. I planted corn along the back fence in the pumpkin patch. Our new pool. And a swim in the new pool.

The Pumpkin is is the ground!

I put the plant in the ground on June 1st.

I hope this keeps the rabbits off until I can get the big fence back up.

26 Apr 2011 Pumpkin time!

I am a week late posting these pictures. I have been having computer issues.
I order seeds from on line this year.

A little about the Dill Giant Pumpkin.

This means the seeds are in the 500-700 lbs range. This package has 7 seeds from a pumpkin that was 592 lbs.

I file the edges a little to help the process along

I put 1 seed each in a 4" pot.

Now Laura is in charge. I have the heating pad in the window of her room. She is to keep them moist.

Pumpkin Patch Preperation

Aaron came over and helped me start the pumpkin patch for this year. Laura came out and helped. The rains from the last two years caused my retaining wall to fall over. We had to dig out all the dirt next to the wall and rebuild the wall. While Aaron was here, he help me start trimming the pepper tree. Opps, sorry neighbor. I need to buy some fence boards to replace the ones that broke.
